WAM/WASP Modeling for the Hillsborough River Basin

In support of the FDEP TMDL program for the Hillsborough River Basin, SWET has calibrated WAM for use with WASP modeling being completed for the listed reaches by URS and CDM consulting firms. The overall objective of this modeling project is to provide daily estimated flows, water levels, total suspended solids, nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus species), BOD, chlorophyll a, and dissolved oxygen levels throughout the stream network within the basin. The spatial extent of the project was the natural hydrologic boundary of the Hillsborough River Watershed with the exception of the by-pass channel, which was handled as boundary conditions through time series files. The temporal extent of the project was 1994 through 2003, with WASP being run for 1998 through 2003.

FDEP had primary responsibility for acquiring the project data sets. SWET assisted FDEP with data quality and completeness evaluations and helped FDEP fix data problems. SWET modified WAM to provided the necessary input data sets for the WASP models developed by URS and CDM. The WAM model is completed and the WASP models are in the final stages of calibration
